The McCain clown parade is finally over and we finally have his replacement in the Senate. It’s former Arizona senator Jon Kyl who retired before the 2012 election and gave us Jeff Flake. This is both a good and bad move. It’s good obviously because it’s not Cindy McCain replacing her husband as had been rumored. It’s also good because Kyl, until McCain doesn’t hold a grudge against this president and should be a reliable yes vote in the Senate.
It’s bad because Kyl doesn’t plan to run for re-election in 2020 and this seat becomes an open senate seat in a presidential election year.

Maybe the reason why Doug Ducey picked Kyl is because he plans to run for that senate seat himself in 2020. Otherwise, I see no other point of picking someone who has already announced he wouldn’t run again in 2020.
