USA Today: Michael Sam most important football player in U.S.

According to Christine Brennan of USA Today, Michael Sam, the gay football player who was picked out of pity in the last round of the NFL draft with pick #249 is somehow the most important player in America now or something. Yes, that’s what USA and Brennan claim. A 7th round draft pick who probably wouldn’t even make the St. Louis RAMs out of training camp is more important than, say Tom Brady, Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman and even first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.

Today, he is the most important football player in the nation.

Sam, the first openly gay man to be drafted by an NFL team, has drawn us into conversations that we as a culture were going to get to, sooner or later.

Turns out it’s sooner.

I have nothing against gay people. I don’t think they are going to hell or whatever. But this constant fawning over gay athletes is beyond lame. Compare the media coverage of a seventh round draft scrub to that of Tim Tebow when he was drafted.

If I turn out wrong and Michael Sam does in fact make the Rams and actually have a productive NFL career then good for him. But the most important player in the NFL? You lefties in the media are really gullible.
