Homes were evacuated in Pennsylvania Monday morning after a train carrying hazardous materials derailed.
A 40-car CSX freight train derailed in Montgomery County just before 5 a.m. causing emergency crews to respond to Whitemarsh Township, according to CBS News. CSX said at least 16 cars went off the tracks.
Precautionary evacuations have occurred at the residents and businesses closest to the scene. It is not believed that further evacuations will be needed, but we will evaluate as we know more,” the Whitemarsh Township Police Department said.
Police added silicon pellets were leaking from at least one train car but that they posed no risk to the public.The contents of the other derailed cars weren’t immediately known and hazmat crews were at the site.
