A man driving a U-Haul truck ran over several pedestrians in New York City on Monday before being stopped.
Fire department officials said at least four pedestrians and one police officer were injured at two different locations as a result of this incident, according to ABC News. Initial reports indicate several pedestrians were dragged by the truck after being hit.
The truck was reportedly seen speeding through the Bay Ridge neighborhood, striking several people along the way before police were able to stop the vehicle in Brooklyn, according to ABC News. Officers stopped the U-Haul roughly three miles away from Bay Ridge, near the entrance to a tunnel that leads to Manhattan, according to ABC News. Bomb squad units responded to the scene, Fox News reported.
“While the suspect is in custody, the NYPD is still investigating. There are no additional credible threats at this time,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
