I don’t know what the deal is with Norfolk Southern and Ohio. But once again, a Norfolk Southern train has cost the life of a resident of Ohio. This time in Cleveland.
A Norfolk-Southern train was involved in a deadly traffic collision early Tuesday morning in Cleveland’s Industrial Valley, according to reports.
Norfolk-Southern released a statement saying the conductor was struck by a dump truck as the train was moving through a crossing at the Cleveland Cliffs facility.
Cleveland-Cliffs is a flat-rolled steel producer and supplier of iron ore pellets.
The dump truck collided with the train around 1:19 a.m. in the 2600 block of West 3rd Street, a Cleveland-Cliffs official confirmed.
Cleveland police confirmed that the dump truck proceeded forward through the railroad tracks and struck the front left side of the first car of the train.
Police say the conductor was positioned on the outside of the front left side of the forward train car and was struck in the collision.
Cleveland Police said the accident investigation unit responded to the 2600 block of West 3rd for a crash involving a train and a vehicle.
The Cleveland-Cliffs official confirmed that the Norfolk-Southern worker was killed in the accident, with no word on the condition of the dump truck operator.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Louis Shuster.
Norfolk-Southern confirmed the identity of the conductor.
