This week, Facebook is supposed to make a decision on whether or not to re-instate Trump’s account, that has been banned since January of 2021. Trump wants back on Twitter and has reportedly petitioned Facebook to return. He may even return to Twitter now that his account is unbanned. Trump had previously stated that he wouldn’t return to Twitter because he was focused on his own social media platform, Truth Social. But some of his closest allies claim he is talking about returning to Twitter.
He should return to Twitter. He could also generate a lot more traffic for Truth Social via Twitter and if Facebook reinstates his account.
Former President Donald Trump is reportedly petitioning to come back on Facebook and plans on returning to his newly-unblocked Twitter account as part of his 2024 presidential campaign.
“We believe that the ban on President Trump’s account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse,” the Trump campaign wrote Tuesday to Facebook parent company Meta in a letter obtained by NBC News.
Both Facebook and Twitter suspended Trump after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He attempted to revive a lawsuit in November against Twitter over his suspension. New Twitter owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account days later following a poll on the social media platform. Trump has not tweeted since before the ban.
Meta is considering allowing Trump back on the platform, the company’s CEO Nick Clegg said in September.
Trump previously said he would focus on Truth Social and that he was not interested in returning to Twitter.
“Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It’s just a question of how and when,” a Republican close to Trump told NBC. “He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump speaks for Trump, so it’s anyone’s guess what he’ll do or say or when.”
