There were also some fake news reports that Rittenhouse filed a lawsuit against CNN. But those were fake too. So far, according to a spokesperson for the Rittenhouse family, he has not filed any defamation lawsuits (YET).

Many social media posts sharing false information included links to an article on Potatriots Unite, which is part of “a network of websites and social media accounts that describes its content as ‘parody, satire, and tomfoolery,’” Snopes reports. Rittenhouse was recently acquitted of homicide charges after he was tried for fatally shooting two men and injuring a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
