Turns out the instigator of the weekend threats against the Covington kids, Nathan Phillips never was deployed to Vietnam after all. Nathan Phillips was born in the year 1954. Most deployments to Vietnam ended around 1971 or ’72. Phillips would have just been out of high school if he was truly deployed to Vietnam, which he wasn’t. Phillips served in the U.S. Marines from 1972 to 1976, basically after all the fighting in Vietnam was over. Nathan Phillips is no better than stolen valor little Dick Blumenthal of Connecticut. I wonder if the compared notes.
There have been no social media corrections by the Washington Post falsely claiming that Phillips is a Vietnam veteran, only a small correction at the bottom of puff piece on him that reads:
Stolen valor! Nathan Phillips never deployed to Vietnam |
---|
Correction: Earlier versions of this story incorrectly said that Native American activist Nathan Phillips fought in the Vietnam War. Phillips said he served in the U.S. Marines but was never deployed to Vietnam.
So yet another epic media fuck up. I’ve lost count how many stories the media has blown in just the first two plus weeks of the new year.
