Arizona Republican governor Doug Ducey has a decision to make. Who will he appoint to replace John McCain in the Senate? Whoever he appoints wouldn’t face a special election until 2020. McCain’s term would have ended in 2022.
Unfortunately, the only name that’s been thrown around to replace McCain is his wife, Cindy McCain. I really hope this doesn’t happen. Cindy McCain would be a disaster as a successor to her husband’s Senate seat. She would probably make John McCain’s record look conservative.

The Arizona primary for this year’s election is this coming Tuesday. Either Kelli Ward or Martha McSally will likely win the GOP primary. Sheriff Arpiao is 85 years old and doesn’t have a chance. How about Ducey name the successor to McCain’s Senate seat whoever comes in second in Arizona’s Tuesday primary?
There are plenty of good conservatives in Arizona that could take McCain’s seat if Ducey does the right thing.
