Netanyahu has summoned Dan Shapiro, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, CNN reported.
Netanyahu has harshly criticized the Obama administration for allowing the U.N. Security Council to vote on a resolution condemning Israeli settlements in occupied territories.
The U.S. had the ability to veto the U.N. Security Council resolution, but abstained from the vote Friday, allowing it to pass. The U.S. has typically blocked similar resolutions in the past.
Israel also summoned the ambassadors from Russia, China, the United Kingdom and France, the other permanent members of the Security Council, according to CBS New York.
The Israeli leader has accused Obama of working covertly to get the censure approved.
Netanyahu said Israel was aware bringing the issue to the U.N. would “make negotiations harder. He noted he has “friends” in the U.S. who have said the U.N. resolution is “reckless and destructive.”
