Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said his investigators have evidence that the man who is accused of killing a deputy was looking for a weapon and someone to rob, just 24 hours before Detective David Michel was gunned down.
Jerman Neveaux,19, was released from the hospital Friday morning. He had a couple of lacerations and a broken bone, Normand said.
The sheriff said Neveaux admitted the gun used to allegedly shoot and kill Michel was stolen, but investigators have yet to find out where or whom it was possibly stolen from.
He also had a phone on his possession. The JPSO was able to download communication between Neveaux and a friend.
The sheriff read some of the messages at his news conference.
“Ask cuz does he know someone selling a tool.” Tool is slang for a gun.
“I got somebody we could jack out a tool. We could jack out a f**king brother. I know, somewhere we need to come up on some money.”
“You mean you going to? No son. I’m going to f**cking tell you Tyrese that’s dead.”
Normand said he talked to the individual that Neveaux was texting. He said investigators confirmed Neveaux was looking for more weapons. The texts were sent approximately one day before Det. David Michel was shot on Manhattan Blvd.
