A number of NBC staffers are refusing to go to Rio Olympics in Brazil citing concerns over the Zika virus.
More than 2,000 staff are expected to work on the two-week broadcast from South America, but a handful have already stated they will not be making the journey 5,000 mile journey.
Its most high-profile talent including Today hosts Matt Lauer, Meredith Viera and Savannah Guthrie will be presenting from the games alongside Winter Games’ stars like Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, but a number of producers working behind the scenes have requested to stay put at the network’s New York headquarters.
Remember the 2014 Winter Olympics when Bob Costas had an pink eye or something? I guess they are afraid it may happen again.
All the NBC hacks can be protected from other nuts thanks to armed security. But they can’t do anything against the Zika bug.
