A 16-year-old is in custody after allegedly shooting a Cornelius police officer Saturday morning, while wearing a bullet proof vest.
Cornelius police say charges are pending for Greyson Ferrell who police say shot at officers and injured one.
According to police, Ferrell was wearing a bullet proof vest when he opened fire.
At 11:36 Saturday morning, Shift Commander, Lt. James Quattlebaum, and other officers was responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home in the 19400 block of Coachman’s Trace Drive near Washam-Potts Road.
When officers came under fire, they reportedly shot back and injured Ferrell.
Quattlebaum was hit in the stomach and had to be rushed to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Saturday afternoon the officer was listed in “fair” condition by hospital staff. A spokesperson said the officer had not needed surgery, although an operation had not been ruled out.
