A 6.4 earthquake has occurred off the coast of Hatillo, Puerto Rico. This is about 76 miles Northwest of San Juan. This earthquake in Puerto Rico occurred exactly 4 years after the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti. A 6.4 earthquake could cause loss of life and significant property damage. You just don’t think of the Caribbean as being a hotbed for earthquakes.

While not as strong as the Haiti earthquake, the situation needs to be monitored. The only consolation is that the quake occurred off the coast of Puerto Rico. If you have family or friends living in, or visiting Puerto Rico, you should try and get in touch with them immediately.
Aftershocks will cause more damage, and injury.
